A teenage volunteer has recently been praised by his local MP for completing over 100 hours of volunteering.
Ben Armes, who is 18, wanted to raise awareness of a need for more teenagers to volunteer in a campaign dubbed 'It's time to give back'. Ben started off hoping to gain some volunteer experience but has since then completed 100 hours of service volunteering in various local places, including Windmill House Care Home and Chapel Road School. Ben said “It was an extremely rewarding experience, and I urge all young people to do it as it's built my confidence up loads”.
MP Anthony Edwards, who Ben met recently at the Town Hall to congratulate him added 'People have praised how much of a difference he has made in our community, but actually it's important to remember that this experience also benefits young people and that's another reason young people and that's another reason to get involved'. Ben has since set up his own website about his campaign and is continuing to go into schools and talk about his experience to encourage other young people to support him.

Two teenagers have raised money for Cancer Research by running the ‘Shine’ marathon last weekend.
Abby Woollard and Eleanor Taylor, who are both 17 raised nearly £2000 worth of sponsorship between them after taking part in the event which took place in London on Saturday night. It involved running through the night and 5000 other people people took part. They decided to run the non competative marathon after losing family members to the disease. A local festival which is held on the second Saturday of July every year has been cancelled. 'Playfest' which has been taking place for the last 4 years at Browick Road Park is said to have been a huge success for both old and young, but now due to a decreased budget aswell as ineffective and lack of organisation is no longer being hosted this year.
Ed Pearce who performed with his band at the festival since it's beginning said 'This is such a disappointment. Not only was it good for the town but it also gave us a great platform to perform our music to a big crowd.'
Angela Hamilton who has been in charge of managing the festival for the first 4 years was not available for comment.
